Reflections on Monet artwork
Year 4 spent some time reflecting on their Monet artwork which they had been sketching and painting over the last few weeks. The children each chose a shape to answer some questions to guide their reflection which they then wrote onto and stuck into their books.
Painting in the style of Van Gogh
Year 4 chose a design, which they then sketched and started to use all the skills they’ve learnt to create their own painting in the show Van Gogh. A work in progress. A great start.
Sketching portraits
Year 4 looked at a variety of portraits painted by Van Gogh, including self portraits. They then continued with practising their sketching skills to sketch a portrait of a chosen portrait. I was really impressed with their sketching. Well done Year 4, you observed really carefully and created a contrast with darker and lighter shading.
Using lines to create movement 2
Year 4 continued with their sketches of their chosen Van Gogh painting. They have really done well with choosing different types of pencils and using them to create their sketches. I have been really impressed with the work and care taken with their sketches. Well done.
Using lines to create movement
Year 4 looked at how Van Gogh used lines to create movement in their artwork. They noticed that he used a variety of lines in the form of short and long straight and wavy lines as well as swirls. They tested out a variety of sketching pencils and started to sketch a Van Gogh painting – Starry Night or Wheatfield with Cypresses, using two different pencils they’d chosen to work with.
Opie poses follow up – Arts day
Last week the children looked at Opie’s artwork and poses or dramatic gesture found in the painting The finding of Moses. They drew their poses onto felt and cut them out. Today the children started to compose the Felt artwork,by rethinking the size of their felt model and making adjustments where necessary. They then added felt accessories to their ‘person’, ahat, a tie, briefcase, an item of clothing just as Opie does in his work. To complete their composition, they then chose a felt background in a complimentary colour. Some amazing arrangements. Well done year 4
Van Gogh collages – the finale
Year 4 worked on completing their collages. They outlined their sunflower with black pen, then chose button to sew into the middle of their sunflowers ~ after threading needles and finding out how to sew on a button!
Van Gogh collages
The children continued with their collages, making sure that the background was a contrasting colour to the foreground.
