Year 4 looked at some more of Van Gogh’s work on sunflowers. They were then given an image of a sunflower to sketch. They will use this sketch in future lessons as they will paint it using shades and tints and collage.

The children looked at the colour wheel. They identified the primary and secondary colours. They looked at what happens to a colour when white or black is added. They then looked at some of Van Gogh’s art to see where he used tints and shades. They then chose some colours and added white and black, mixing tints and shades of those colours.

Year 4 looked at a variety of paintings by Van Gogh: flowers, sunflowers, blossoms, portraits and self portraits. We discussed the what they liked and disliked about the paintings, giving reasons. They then chose some images and wrote down a few sentences giving options with reasons.
Year 4 started a new topic. They found out about Van Gogh and his life, presenting their work as a illustrated journal page, ensuring that they wrote at least 5 facts.

Lo: to reflect and evaluate on a Dali inspired painting and sculpture
Year 4 reflected on their Dali sculptures, noting what went we t and what didn’t. They wrote a few sentences about what they had done and reflected on what they would change if they made their sculpture again.
Lo: to create a 3D Dali sculpture
Year 4 looked at part of Dali’s Persistence of Memory which they used as inspiration for the 3D sculpture. They then used clay to make a base for their ‘tree’. They placed their ‘ tree’ into the base ensuring that it wouldn’t fall over. They then used a different type of clay to shape and form their ‘melted clocks’, adding detail with a felt tip pen. The 3D sculptures look amazing. Well done year 4.
