Lo: to explore the symbolism in the Persistence of Memory

Year 4 looked at Dali’s painting, The Persistence of Memory in more detail. They looked at and discussed the symbolism found in the painting then they had a go at sketching and shading part of the painting.

Year 4 completed their dream sequence pictures.They added colour and an explanation of their dreams. You’ll see some very imaginative dreams below.

LO: to create a dream sequence

Year 4 have been looking at Dali’s artwork which was often inspired by his dreams. To create their own dream sequence, the children chose 4 pictures: 2 unrelated images, a setting and 2 colours. They then drew their setting, placing the items in that setting. Next week they will complete their dream sequence by adding colour using the 2 different colours they have chosen.

Year 4 continued finding out about Surrealism by finding out some facts about Salvador Dali. They created a fact file journal in their books.

LO: to use collage to create surrealist art

Year 4 continued with their surrealsit artwork. This time they looked at a variety of surrealist artworks as inspiration. They searched through magazines to find images of everyday images which when put together to create a collage, become surreal.

LO: to complete contemporary inspired surrealist sketches

Year 4 discussed what Surrealism means. They then wrote down their own definition before continuing to complete their sketches from last week. They added shading and colour to their work.

LO : to find out about Surrealism

Year 4 started a new topic: Surrealism. They looked at two surrealist images. Discussing with their partner what it was about the images that were different and surrealist. They then came out with their own definition. They also looked at a few other surrealist images. They then chose an image from a contemporary surrealist artist and used the image as inspiration to sketch a surrealist image.

Lo: to create a Victorian Pin- prick Christmas card

To finish off the Victorian Christmas work that we have been doing over the last few weeks, the children created their own Victorian Pin – prick Christmas cards. They chose their design, folded card in half and using a drawing pin and template followed along the outline. They then finished it off with a ribbon. They are very effective, especially if held up to the light.

Year 4 continued with their Victorian gift creations. The children, continued with collaging their gift box templates and with embroidering , sewing and filling their felt shapes.

LO: to follow a design to create a Victorian gift

Year 4 started their Victorian gift creations. Some children cut out a box template. They then chose different coloured paper and Christmas designs , which they then glued onto the template. The other group of children, cut out shapes, hearts,stars, trees or baubles out of felt which they will then embroider.
